This is, by far, my absolute most favorite time of the year. Being lodged in the transition from summer to fall. The tourists in San Diego have made themselves scarce, there’s a chill in the air in the morning and evenings, grocery stores have a bounty of summer fruits mixed with autumn squashes. The air is clean and breezy, the sky is blue, and the rhythm of the days and weeks has settled into a nice back to school routine whereby public places are no longer crowded at all hours of the day. It really is my favorite time of the year.
It’s also a favorite time of mine to cook since my kitchen is not subject to the sweltering heat of summer and because I love mixing fall and summer flavors.
This jalapeño crema adds a cooling element to the warmth of a good fall chili. The kick from the jalapeño reminds me of summer cocktails, tacos, salsa, and bright tropical fruits. It pairs fantastically with a crockpot pork verde or my personal favorite, Pumpkin Chili. If you find yourself in one of those weeks where you’re longing for sweater weather, but the reality of summer is still very present, add this crema to your list of “things to make”. It’s a fantastic addition to any dish.
